Updated Your Logo?

Quick Summary

Don't let old branding linger in forgotten corners of your online store or tech stack. From browser tab icons and automated order notifications to email signatures and social sharing, here is your comprehensive, step-by-step checklist to ensure a seamless, professional logo swap across Shopify and your wider business operations.

The Ultimate Shopify Checklist of Where to Swap It

You just finished designing a shiny new logo or giving your brand identity a fresh update. Congratulations! Refreshing your visuals is an exciting milestone for any growing business. But once the new design files are sitting in your downloads folder, a very practical question pops up: Where on earth do I actually need to update this?

When you run an online shop, your logo hides in far more places than just the top left corner of your homepage. From browser tab icons to automated order confirmation emails, missing a spot can leave your customers seeing mixed brand messaging.

To make your brand transition smooth and less stressful, we put together a complete checklist of all the locations you need to check across Shopify, your marketing tools, your daily operations, and other channels. Since every theme and setup is a bit different, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Pro-Tip for a More Seamless Swap

Before you start replacing images, create a few variations of your logo and organize your new logo files into a dedicated folder on your computer with clear labels (for example: Logo_Transparent_PNG, Favicon_Square_32x32, Header_SVG). Having your assets pre-sized for headers, emails, and social avatars ahead of time will save you a ton of time during the upload process.

Here are few logo variations to create so that your update goes smoother:

  • Primary graphic

    • Ideally a PNG format with a transparent background

    • Consider also creating versions of your logo that is…

      • All white and all black (these versions help for additional contrast with different background colors - like if you use a transparent header on your homepage or if you use a non-contrasting background color for your footer).

      • Square (with padding all around so that it works with a circular crop)

  • Favicon graphic

    • PNG format

    • 192×192 pixels: This size is larger than needed but good to have since someone might save your website link to their desktop. Make sure to review how the graphic looks at a smaller, 32×32 pixel, size (since this is what will be the version seen in browser tabs and bookmarks).

  • Social sharing graphic

    • JPG format

    • 1200×629 pixels

Location 1: Core Store Branding & Theme

Start with the primary visual elements of your Shopify storefront.

  • Theme Header (Sales Channels > Online Store > Themes > Customize)
Update your logo in the header section or in the settings area (depending on your theme). Don't forget to customize the size for mobile and don’t forget to check any other areas of your website that include your logo (eg maybe your footer includes your logo, maybe you have a brand assets download page for PR reasons, maybe you have an About page that includes the history of your logo like Google does, etc).

  • Theme Favicon (Sales Channels > Online Store > Themes > Customize > Theme Settings > Logo / Favicon)
Upload a clear, small-format version (usually square and simple) that shows up in browser tabs and bookmarks. We recommend using a version that is 192x192 pixels (since this will be used if someone saves your website link to their desktop) but make sure to review how it looks at 32×32 pixels (since this is what will be the version seen in browser tabs and bookmarks).

  • Shopify Brand Settings (Settings > General > Brand)
This serves as your primary brand repository within Shopify, feeding standard assets across integrated apps and defaults. This will typically include your default logo (like the one you used for your homepage header) and a square version of your logo (one that looks good when cropped into a circular shape…so be sure to include some padding).

  • Sales Channel Preferences (Sales Channels > Online Store > Preferences)
Ensure your social sharing preview image is updated so your new logo displays correctly when links are shared on social platforms or messaging apps.

  • Gift Cards
If you have setup a gift card product with your logo, then you will want to update the product images. You might also want to check the associated ‘new gift card’ and ‘gift card receipt’ email notifications (if you updated those templates with a bespoke image that includes your logo).

Location 2: Additional Customer Touchpoints

Next, ensure every transactional interaction carries your new visual identity.

  • Customer Notifications (Settings > Notifications > Customer Notifications > Customize Email Templates)
Update the logo displayed at the top of your order confirmations, shipping updates, and account creation emails. This is typically the same logo as the one used for your website header.

  • Packing Slip (Settings > Shipping and Delivery > Documents > Templates > Packing Slip)
Update your print header logo so physical packages arrive with up-to-date branding. This is typically the same logo as the one used for your website header.

  • Checkout Page (Settings > Checkout > Edit > Header > Logo > Settings)
Double-check the checkout header to maintain visual consistency right through the final payment step.

Location 3: Apps & Channels

Third-party apps often store their own separate graphic assets, so take a quick audit of your app stack.

  • Email Marketing (Apps > Messaging > Templates + Manage Branding)
Update your default brand assets in your app settings, then do a quick pass through any emails to swap out header images in those emails. If you are using other apps for email marketing (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Flodesk, etc), then be sure to update those settings, templates, and flows.

  • Flows (Apps > Flows)
Update your logo for each flow that includes an email. This typically includes flows for Abandoned Carts, Welcome Series, and Post-Purchase Follow-ups.

  • Sales Channels: For example, you can update your logo in the Shop App (Sales Channels > Shop > Customize). You may also want to visit other sales channels to see if there is a logo or avatar or cover banner that should be updated.

  • Other Apps: Review all other apps, especially those with embed or popup widgets, to ensure your logo is updated. For example, you would visit Settings > Email templates > Edit template styling if you are using the popular Judge.me reviews app (which requires a PNG version of your logo that .

Location 4: Beyond Your Storefront

Beyond Shopify, your business runs on a web of behind-the-scenes systems. These daily operational touchpoints are easy to forget, but swapping your logo here keeps your internal and administrative branding just as polished as your storefront.

  • Social Profiles: Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube channel avatars and banner graphics.

  • Daily Communications: Update individual team email signatures in Gmail or Outlook, as well as centralized generator tools like WiseStamp. If you use Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, update the top-corner organization logo in your admin console so it displays across Gmail and Google Drive.

  • Team Apps: Swap workspace avatars and channel icons in tools like Slack, Asana, ClickUp, or Trello.

  • Invoicing & Payments: Update your header logo on invoices in accounting tools like QuickBooks, Xero, or Wave, and refresh email receipt branding inside your Stripe and PayPal business dashboards.

  • Client Management & Booking Tools: Update custom intake forms, client portals, and scheduling pages in tools like Calendly, Acuity, HoneyBook, or Dubsado.

  • Search & Local Profiles: Refresh your logo on your Google Business Profile (for Google Maps and search results), along with review sites like Trustpilot or Yelp.

  • Templates & Downloads: Check master slide decks in Canva or Google Slides, as well as lead magnet PDFs, welcome guides, or price sheets you send directly to clients.
